"Watch out, a watermelon! Ooooh, run away!"

—Treat, context unknown

Treat Robert Paine is an escaped patient from a psychiatric hospital with a history of many complex mental disorders that cause him to lack a sense of fear or morality. Treat is officially homeless and makes a living traveling around the world solving problems to make money. While he is suspected of many crimes, he is not a known criminal to federal authorities, although he is a dangerous individual to know. Treat currently resides in Billgatesville, Ohio, attempting to reintegrate into society.

Info

Description

Treat is a 25 year old American male, standing at 5'4" and weighing 157 lbs, with short and thick light blond hair and dark amber eyes. He has pale white skin with very clear complexion and a slightly below average build. He is physically very healthy and in good shape, but is not very strong for his size. Treat is quite agile, however, due to his highly mobile lifestyle. He is very situationally aware and after countless encounters with flying objects, Treat has become highly skilled at dodging projectiles, and is even capable of fighting evenly with an experienced martial artist for a few seconds by dodging.

Treat wears featureless black coveralls with deep pockets and black and white lightweight sneakers. He rarely wears anything other than this, possessing multiple identical copies of the same outfit. He will however wear other clothing if needed to blend in better with an environment, but he feels uncomfortable wearing normal clothing or anything formal.

Personality

At first impression, Treat is generally very eccentric and quirky, but a kindhearted and friendly individual. He is highly social and enjoys having companions, so he will seek groups as soon as possible to make friends. Although he has an affinity for people, he doesn't have a complete grasp over social norms, and is virtually incapable of smoothly holding a conversation in normal interactions. Despite this, he does not appear to have a sense of social empathy and seems to radiate confidence in all of his actions, completely unaware of any awkwardness he may cause. Although he is not adept at creating personal relationships, he is quite skilled at making business contacts and has acquired many dealers for a wide variety of things.

As mentioned above, Treat is host to numerous physiological disorders that drastically changes the way he thinks from normal people. One of the most major of these is a malfunctioning amygdala, which causes him to have a significantly reduced sense of fear. While Treat is capable of caution, he does not retain a freeze response and is unable to experience "creepiness." He will often not respond to danger until his life is immediately threatened, by which point his only options are usually to run or attempt to defend himself. This served as a major problem during Treat's childhood, but in adulthood he is aware of this disorder and has learned how to use it to his advantage.

Treat is rather morally ambiguous, appearing to have little to no sense of sympathy, empathy, or guilt. He is inherently selfish and will only go out of his way to help those in need if it benefits him in some way, and will not show remorse for unethical behavior in any way. At his core, Treat wants to be good, but does not have the same sense of good and evil as normal people. This can make him quite dangerous at times, as he will often resort to brutality and violence if it is the fastest way to solve a problem. However, he is not completely reckless, and will not commit crimes unless he knows he can get away with it. Despite his occasional violent tendencies, Treat is normally very peaceful, and can be a loyal and trustworthy friend who is always there for people who believe in him.

Abilities

  • Self-preservation: Due to his lack of fear, Treat is capable of remaining calm in high-stress situations and is thus able to think of solutions to problems that might not have been obvious to anyone in a panic. He is able to carefully analyze a situation for any quick routes to victory, and because of past training in weapon improvisation, he is usually able to disable a threat with relatively simple tools and objects. This makes Treat a formidable adversary, as his unshakable bravery and warped sense of reality make his responses to threats very unpredictable and sometimes quite violent.

Equipment

  • S&W Model 500 revolver: Treat's primary weapon is a Model 500 revolver that he keeps in his right pocket. Despite using such a powerful gun, he has no idea how to use it properly and fires it single-handed, resulting in virtually no accuracy of any sort. He mostly uses it for intimidation purposes and rarely shoots anyone, but he has killed people with it on several occasions.
  • Chef's knife: Treat's melee weapon is a large chef's knife he keeps in his left pocket. He prefers using it for stabbing, although it is intended for cutting. Like his revolver, he mostly uses it for intimidation purposes rather than actually hurting people with it.
  • Rock: Treat carries a semi-round but sharp rock with him at all times for use in emergencies. The rock can be used both defensively and offensively at short and medium ranges, making it quite versatile. He mainly uses it as a blunt force tool or as a brief distraction to an opponent, but is heavy enough to cause serious injury if thrown at the head. Treat believes that this rock is the only reason he is alive today.
  • Other things: Treat makes the best use of his environment and takes anything of use to him on his travels, however he is limited to the space in his pockets. Other items Treat has been known to often use include laser pointers, silly string, baseball bats, and small animals.
